A new Greenpeace video explains how HFCs used to cool our drinks, cars and buildings pose a growing threat to the climate. A petition joined to the video calls for a phase out of HFCs by 2020. BeyondHFCs welcomes the initiative and invites its readers to sign the petition.
“The naked truth about F-gases”, is the Greenpeace video raising awareness about HFCs, which are much less known greenhouse gases than CO2. Used to cool our drinks, cars and buildings, HFC refrigerants are super greenhouse gases, posing a growing threat to climate.

Eliminating F-gases is a low-hanging fruit in the fight against climate change, hence why the environmental group calls for action in this area.

“If you released into the atmosphere the 300 grams of HFC in your fridge at home, it would have the same effect on the climate as driving a VW Golf from London to Moscow”, warns Dave, the Greenpeace campaigner in the video.

HFC-free solutions ready to go

“The good new is that F-gases can just go away” and be replaced by technologies using natural refrigerants, solutions that are “tried tested and ready to go” and with a “minimal impact on the environment”, states the video.

A call for action to sign the Greenpeace petition to phase-out HFCs

“What we need now is a strong signal from the Copenhagen talks on climate change this December that F-gases are deeply ‘uncool’. Because HFCS are such powerful greenhouse gases, getting rid of them is a really easy and effective way of tackling climate change”, states the video before inviting individuals to sign the petition asking world leaders to phase out HFCs.
