Video interviews discuss importance of moving away from HFCs in cars

In video interviews conducted by UNEP OzonAction Branch, high level people from the United Nations Environment Programme, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and the European Commission discuss the importance of moving away from HFCs in car air-conditioning.
In this first video, Rajendre Shende, Chief, OzonAction, UNEP Division of Technology, Industry and Economics, Atul Bagal, Senior Regional Co-ordinator, UNEP Bangkok and Etienne Gonin, Project Co-ordinating Consultant, UNEP discuss how the use of HFCs in mobile air-conditioning (MAC) is becoming a problem for the planet. “I think it is critically important for China and India to focus on this extremely important challenge simply because the population of cars in both countries is increasing very rapidly and a large percentage of cars is now fitted with air-conditioning equipment” says Dr. Rajendra Pachauri, Chairperson, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change in an interview regarding the India Policy Workshop on the status of MAC Replacement Technologies, New Delhi, India, that took place on 7-8 June 2010.
Phillip Owen, Head of Ozone and Fluorinated GHGs Unit, European Commission, provides an overview of the UNEP HCFC JumpStart and Air-Conditioning project which is partly funded by the European Commission and which aims to contributing towards the reduction in emissions of ozone depleting substances and greenhouse gases.
